Globe extends free calls, texts, data to customers in Sri Lanka

Globe is providing free calls, texts, and data to customers in Sri Lanka amid escalating tensions in light of an economic crisis in the South Asian country.

Filipinos using Globe’s roaming services will get free access to 15 minutes of calls, 15 texts and 1GB of data valid for 7 days to reach their loved ones back home.

“We are closely monitoring the events unfolding in Sri Lanka and are providing free connectivity to Filipinos there to ensure they are able to reach their families and friends during this challenging time,” said Coco Domingo, Globe VP for Postpaid and International Business.

Customers will be able to avail of this free service by latching on to Globe’s partners Hutchison and Dialog.

There is no registration needed as the goodwill offer will be automatically seeded to customers detected in Sri Lanka. A confirmation message will be sent to customers advising them that the free roaming offer is ready for use.

To make a call, dial “+”+ country code + area code + telephone number (ex. +6327730212) or dial “+” + country code + mobile number (ex. +639171234567). To send a text, type “+”+ country code + mobile number (ex. +639171234567).

To use the free 1GB data allocation, simply turn on mobile data and data roaming on your phone’s settings, and set the network connection to 3G or LTE. Postpaid customers are encouraged to only turn on their mobile data and data roaming once they have received the activation message.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has raised Alert Level 2 for Filipinos in Sri Lanka, suspending deployment of new workers there and urging Pinoy migrants to be careful and refrain from taking part in protests. There are an estimated 500 Filipinos in Sri Lanka.

Globe has been prioritizing assistance for the safety of its customers worldwide. It earlier provided prepaid load and postpaid bill adjustments to its customers in Myanmar and Afghanistan after similar unrests, and free roaming access during anti-government riots in Kazakhstan.
