GUNNING for her last term, Cagayan de Oro City reelectionist Councilor Joyleen Mercedes “Girlie” Balaba told his local partymates over the weekend that she would be taking a break from campaigning with them.
The shock announcement was made when it was Balaba’s turn to speak before thousands of supporters who mobbed the proclamation rally of reelectionist Mayor Rolando Uy last March 29 at Rio de Oro boulevard.
Balaba was joined by second district reelectionists Councilors Edgar Cabanlas and aspirants Anthony Abejuela, Paolo Gaane, Gilda Go, Yam Lam Lim and Enrico Salcedo; unchallengd reelectionist Rep. Rufus Rodriguez and reelectionist Vice Mayor Jocelyn Rodriguez.
Balaba said she could not make it to the slate’s rallies as she would be concentrating on campaigning for the nine senatorial candidates of PDP-Laban.
Balaba added that she would also be busy continuing to lead the local movement that has been demanding for the return of former President Rodrigo Duterte to the country.
However, Balaba assured her constituents that she would continue to attend all City Council sessions and committee meetings.
This, even as she is already preparing her Schengen visa for a possible trip to the Netherlands where the former President is held.
