ALMOST 200 pollution control officers coming from various government agencies and private industries all over Mindanao gathered for two days here in Cagayan de Oro City for the first ever island-wide conference of the Guardians of the Earth Association, Inc.
Delegates came from as far away as Zamboanga peninsula and Dinagat island February 23 to 24 at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, reported the group’s president Feliciano Perater Jr.
All in all, there were a total of 180 participants who listened to presentations in the latest technology in anti-pollution.
Presentations included an inspirational message by Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) 10 director Reynaldo Digamo, best practices from the town of Tagoloan in Misamis Oriental, testimonial from industry partner Seeway Inc. regarding their state of the art wastewater treatment technologies, handling of controlled precursors by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), procedures on the import and export of regulated chemicals by the Bureau of Customs, incorporating climate risk into pollution control planning from the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineering (PIChe) and more.
Four companies were also awarded the most compliant across all anti-pollution fields – toxic substances, clean air, solid waste management and clean water.
They were Crystal Sugar Company Inc., Axelum Resources Corporation, FDC Misamis Power Corporation and Pilmico.
Exhibitors included Bluelander Environmental Services Corporation, Biogreen Processing and Manufacturing Inc. and JEA Consultancy Services.
Founded in 1991, Guardians of the Earth Association Inc. acts as a venue for pollution control officers for learning policies, sharing problems as well as providing solutions to environmental concerns particularly prevention, control and abatement of land, air and water pollution.
