MEMBERS of the House of Representatives committee on suffrage and electoral reform predicted over the weekend that their version of a consolidated anti-political dynasty bill will be approved by the Lower chamber before their Lenten break next month and will submit the matter into the Senate for deliberations.
Speaking in Cagayan de Oro City during the last leg of a nationwide public consultation on the proposal, Reps. Ziaur-Rahman Adiong (Lanao del Sur), Lordan Suan (Cagayan de Oro), Yevgeny Vincente Emano (Misamis Oriental), Jennifer Lagbas (Misamis Oriental), Jonathan Keith Flores (Bukidnon), Rachel Marguerite del Mar (Cebu City), Sarah Jane Elago (Gabriela) and Nathaniel Oducado (1Tahanan) are all confident that the measure will be fasttracked.
It was learned that the anti-political dynasty bill is among those being identified as priority by the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC).
The Senate and the House of Representatives held a back to back consultations on the matter for two days from February 19 to 20 in Cagayan de Oro City.
For the Lower House, it is a culmination of three provincial legs of the public hearing representing Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao each: Cavite, Cebu and CDO.
Even Speaker Faustino Dy III was impressed and was grateful to the constituents and sectoral stakeholders alike for heeding the call of the committee to show up and let their voices be heard by the congressmen.
The House leg in Cagayan de Oro was held at DRER Hall and attended by residents, youth, academe, lawyers and clerics.
Some even came as far as Tangub City to express their support to the bill.
Prior to the public consultations, the committee on suffrage and electoral reform had already met with legal experts to consolidate 24 different bills and merge it into one measure to be passed to the Senate.
