DTI leads price monitoring of Christmas items

PRICES of food items for the upcoming traditional Christmas Noche Buena and Christmas lights in Cagayan de Oro City’s grocery stores, supermarkets and other outlets have so far been priced within suggested retail price limits, both City Hall and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provincial office said on Tuesday (Nov. 18).

Both the DTI-Misamis Oriental office and the Cagayan de Oro City Price Coordinating Council (CDO CPCC) started its price monitoring of Noche Buena food items and inspection of Christmas lights with the onset of the long holiday season.

DTI Misamis Oriental Provincial Director Jesusa M. Abear said their monitoring is based on the price guide from their DTI main office.

Noche Buena products listed in the price guide include ham, fruit cocktail, pasta, tomato sauce, queso de bola, sandwich spread, mayonnaise, spaghetti sauce, and other food products and ingredients bought during the holiday season.

The DTI also called on the public to be mindful of buying Christmas lights that don’t meet the prescribed product and safety standards such as bearing the Philippine Standard (PS) and Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) seals.

CDO CPCC co-chairman Atty. Jose Edgardo Uy, said Christmas lights without these official seals are sub-standard and considered as potential fire hazards. (ALR/CIO/Photos by Reynan Baylin & Roel Felicitas/CIO)
