Beyond Holy Week, BFP 10 prepares for SUMVAC, Balik Eskwela and El Nino

FRESH from its successful hosting of the 10th National Fire Olympics in Oroquieta City, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) 10 is now readying its safety roles in the upcoming summer vacation of students, the eventual Balik Eskwela and the unusually high temperatures that come with El Nino expecting to hit the country by September.

According to BFP 10 director F/Chief Supt. Romel Tradio, all personnel of the agency are on Code Red Alert this Holy Week. This means that it is on maximum readiness with all hands on deck, all fire stations fully staffed and strategic deployment in crowded areas such as places of pilgrimage.

Barely after the Holy Week, BFP 10 will have all their hands full for Ligtas Sumvac 2026. Key activities will include fire safety inspections of tourist destinations, beaches and resorts as well as awareness campaigns regarding fire safety.

The same activities will be executed this time in schools around the region for Balik Eskwela 2026 which will occur in June.

And this early, BFP 10 is bracing for the impact of El Nino which is expected to come around by September. This phenomenon, characterized by below normal rainfall, dry spells and drought are all conditions that propel higher risk of fires.

BFP 10 under Tradio was lauded during the recently held 10th National Fire Olympics by central office organizers and participants alike as the best edition so far.
