A highly emotional Opol, Misamis Oriental Mayor Jayfrancis Bago disclosed his administration’s accomplishments for the past two years during the 2024 State of the Municipality Address held July 27 at Opol Community College gym.
This, even as he announced in his speech that Opl has been elevated as a first class municipality.
Central to Bago’s message is continuing to solve the decades-old problem of potable water delivery in the town.
Bago, whose family is rooted in this town adjacent to the west of the regional capital Cagayan de Oro, knew firsthand the lack of water problem in each barangay.
This, he had already started to address by inking agreements with the neighboring Cagayan de Oro Water District and a private bulk supplier, South Balibago Waterworks.
Bago also mentioned the constructions of several child development centers, a multi-purpose rehab activity center, a multipurpose building, public market, health development center and more.
Also at hand were the installation of several spillways and street lights with solar panels.
Bago – who was a neophyte councilor before being elected mayor in 2022 – also told the parents jamnpacked at the Opol Community College gym that the municipal-run educational institution is offering free tuition fee, free review for professional exams as well as scholarship programs for the students.
This is on top of the P620,531 set aside for the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) and assistance for 77 associations and multi-purpose cooperatives.
Bago also thanked the help of the provincial government of Misamis Oriental led by Gov. Peter Unabia (who was present during the State of the Municipality Address) for continuing to pour funds in Opol in the areas of livelihood, health, agriculture and more.
