MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has named former Lipa City mayor Meynardo Sabili as the new chairperson of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP).
Sabili took his oath before Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said in a social media post Wednesday.
Sabili served as mayor of Lipa from 2010 until 2019.
He also served as Undersecretary of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development during the previous administration.
The PCUP serves as a direct link of the urban poor to the government in policy formulation and program implementation addressing their needs.
It also coordinates and monitors the implementation of government policies and programs for the urban poor, as well as accredits legitimate Urban Poor Organizations for representation in the formulation of recommendations relative to the sector.
Meanwhile, retired Justice Stephen Cruz was sworn in as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) in a ceremony also officiated by Bersamin. Photos of Cruz’s oath were also posted on social media by the PCO.
