MISAMIS ORIENTAL – Governor Peter “Sr. Pedro” M. Unabia has announced that the Single Poverty Digit Incidence (SPDI) Summit will be held in September, aiming to address and reduce poverty in the province. John Venice Ladaga, the provincial administrator, confirmed that this initiative aligns with the national goal set by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos to tackle poverty effectively.
The SPDI Summit is part of a broader strategy under Governor Unabia’s PAGLAUM program, which focuses on Participatory Governance to foster progress and economic development. The initiative is designed to achieve a single-digit poverty rate in Misamis Oriental by 2028.
Ladaga highlighted that the summit will be supported by ongoing meetings of SPDI focal persons and will be guided by the governor’s directives. Collaboration with Xavier University has been established, with the university contributing as part of the Technical Working Group and Secretariat to ensure the technical and administrative support needed for the summit’s success.
The summit’s primary goal is to implement various programs aimed at poverty alleviation. The provincial administration has expressed appreciation for the focal persons’ dedication and collaborative efforts in devising effective solutions to the province’s poverty challenges.
Governor Unabia’s vision, as articulated in his recent State of the Province Address, reflects a strong commitment to reducing poverty through active and inclusive governance. The SPDI Summit is expected to play a crucial role in advancing this vision by bringing together key stakeholders and experts to address the pressing issue of poverty in Misamis Oriental. ###
