Two (2) soldiers recovering from battle wounds sustained in a recent clash with the communist terrorist group (CTG) in Bukidnon province were honored and recognized by the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division during the celebration of National Heroes Day on Monday, August 26, 2024.
Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II, the Commander of 4ID, visited the Camp Evangelista Station Hospital (CESH) and pinned the Wounded Personnel Medal (WPM) to Sgt. Rinan G. Lupinhay and PFC William V. Galope, both members of the 88th Infantry Battalion. They were wounded in action during an encounter with an estimated 25 CPP NPA Terrorists (CNTs), believed to be members of the Regional Operations Command (ROC) and Headquarters Force Neo (HQF Neo) of the CTG’s North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC), at Sitio Mahayag, Brgy. St. Peter, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon on August 24.
In addition to the WPM awards, the 4ID also provided in-kind and cash assistance to the wounded troops.It’s worth noting that on August 7, 18, and 19, the 4ID, through the Office of the Division Sergeant Major (ODSM) led by Senior Master Sergeant Rey Viña, also provided financial assistance to four soldiers and one CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA) who were recuperating at the AFP Medical Center, Victoriano Luna in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Polymedic Plaza in Brgy. Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City, and at CESH.
Maj. Gen. Cuerpo II emphasized that these soldiers’ noble acts, including gallantry in action and service to the nation, deserved to be honored as they exhibited sacrifices above and beyond their call of duty. He further emphasized the soldiers’ welfare as the most important resource of the Philippine Army and stated that it should always be a top priority.
Finally, as the nation celebrated the heroism of national heroes on August 26, the 4ID Commander highlighted the soldiers’ selflessness, which paves the way for freedom and maintains peace and development, especially in vulnerable communities.
