Women’s Group in Bukidnon receives Computerized Embroidery Machine
from DOST-10

The Department of Science and Technology-Bukidnon turned over one unit of computerized embroidery machine with advanced embroidery software to Kababayin-an Kaabag sa Kalambuan (KKK) on April 22, 2022, at San Isidro, Talakag, Bukidnon.

KKK, a women’s organization based in Talakag, Bukidnon, has been in garment- making since 2018. However, due to the lack of technology, the organization opted to outsource the embroidery-related services from other shops in the neighboring cities. This process limited their income and productivity.

DOST-Bukidnon, in close partnership with the Local Government Unit of Talakag, made the intervention possible with a total project cost amounting to Php 577,440 through the agency's Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (DOST-CEST) program.

The new technology realized KKK's dedication to revitalizing embroidery in garment-making and opened new opportunities in skills development among 20 unemployed and retired women, including those from the indigenous people (IP) and marginalized sectors.

The organization anticipates an increased income of at least 40% in its first year of operation using the new equipment. The project will support the advocacy of revitalizing local embroidery among the people Talakag and create innovative handicrafts by infusing science and technology. Thus, creating more competitive souvenirs and branding for the municipality leading to more livelihood opportunities.

KKK is a DOLE-registered women’s organization. During the height of the pandemic, this group oranized an ‘’oplan-facemask’’ initiative where all members sewed and distributed facemasks to the community for free. (Jennifer O. Pancho, DOST-Bukidnon)
