The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Central Visayas carries out spontaneous inspections

By John Rey Saavedra

In Cebu City, transportation authorities emphasize the importance of readiness for ensuring a safe and smooth travel journey. Glen Galario, the regional director of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Central Visayas, mentioned that the agency has stationed staff at major terminals across the region to carry out spontaneous inspections. This proactive measure aims to manage the expected rise in traffic during the extended holiday period.

We are conducting random inspection of public utility vehicles (PUVs) to make sure that they are road-worthy and ready for the influx of passengers going back to their provinces and others taking their vacation,” Galario told the Philippine News Agency.

Eduardo Montealto Jr., regional director of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Central Visayas, said the LTFRB issued 130 special permits to ensure there are enough buses to service those who are going to the province.

“Although it is not necessary, we are just doing that to extend the existing routes to give the riding public a chance to be with their family this long holiday,” Montealto told the PNA.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia on Wednesday visited the Cebu South Bus Terminal to see the plight of passengers of south-bound buses.

Meanwhile, the Cebu provincial police deployed 1,800 police personnel in terminals, ports, churches, and public places, said Chief Col. Percival Zorilla.

The police, he said, also established 150 assistance desks to ensure the safety and security of churchgoers, travelers, and the general public. (PNA)
