Talimio, Brito bat for creation of integrated steel mill in R10

RAYMUNDO Talimio Jr., co-chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) 10 economic development committee and board member of Oro Chamber, underscored the immense potential of establishing an integrated steel mill in Northern Mindanao.

Talimio highlighted that the integrated steel mill is a crucial step toward driving rapid, sustainable, and inclusive growth—fostering increased trade and investment, and revitalizing the steel industry.

“Not only will the ISM create job opportunities and boost uincome-earning potential for Filipinos, but it will also serve as a key driver of industrial innovation and regional economic progress,” he added. “The establishment of an integrated steel mill in Northern Mindanao is not just a project. It is a strategy for rapid, sustainable, and inclusive growth. This endeavor supports the promotion oftrade and investment, the revitalization of the steel industry, and the goal of increasing income-earning ability for Filipinos. This underscores the critical role of the ISM in driving industrial innovation, enhancing livelihoods, and elevating the region’s position as a hub foreconomic progress.”

Be updated as the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) unveils the initial findings of the research on the competitiveness of Northern Mindanao as a prime location for an integrated steel mill.

This forum brought together experts and policymakers to discuss the economic, social, and environmental benefits of an ISM, which could create thousands of jobs and drive sustainable growth for our region.

For his part, Oro Chamber incoming president Almarco Brito callef for further studies on the viability and feasibility of integrated steel manufacturing in the region.

Brito underscored the importance of research and development and innovation in steel production to improve efficiency and product quality.

“We recommend conducting a further study on the viability and feasibility of ISM in the region,” he said. “Supporting research and development and innovation in steel production technology carlead to more efficient processes and high-qualityproducts. Implementing favorable governmentpolicies that support local manufacturers can also help build a more resilient steel industry.”

The forum also tackled fostering domestic market demand,  advancing infrastructure and workforce capabilities, harmonizing industrial growth with environmental sustainability, and driving the implementation of green technologies to guide the future development of the steel industry in the region.
