THE United Nations celebrates International Youth Day each year, honoring the talents, skills, and feats of young people.
The theme this year is Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development, highlighting the vital link between digitalization and accelerating the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) and emphasizing the crucial contributions of young people in thistransformative process.
As per Republic Act 10742, also known as the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015, Chapter 6, Section 30 mandates the observance of Linggo ng Kabataan.
This annual event, held in August to coincide with International Youth Day, is conducted across barangays, municipalities, cities and provinces.In Cagayan de Oro City, International Youth Day is celebrated throughout August as Kasadya 2024: Oro Youth Month. Kasadya, the Cebuano word for “enjoyment,” embodies the lively spirit of youthcoming together.
Organized by the Oro Youth Development Office in collaboration with the SK Federation Office and various partners, Kasadya 2024 aims to engage, empower, and celebrate the city’s youth.
Activities include interactive sessions, skills development, job opportunities and platforms for showcasing creativity and talents.
The event also highlights youth-led initiatives supporting and inspiring Kagay-anon youth.
For this vear’s Kasadya Oro Youth and its partners listed fun-flled and youth-oriented contests and activities for August. This includes:
* PEER Educators Training (Aug 5-) – A training on peer education to eniable young people to promote well-informed, empowered, healthy, and responsible behaviørs among Kagay-anonadolescents.
* Youth Agvocates Project 3.0: Garden Attack sa USTP (Aug 9)- An all-in-one training, immersive workshop and volunteering activity focused on the Urban Microfarm Concept covering Hydroponics and Urban Gardening for OSY, TESDA trainees, ALS learners, and Life Project 4Youth CDO members.
* Kahigayónan 2024: UY!portunidad para sa Kabatan-onan (Aug 12-14) – A one-stop shop that provides an avenue for the youth to be informed on OSYDA’S core components: Education, Employment, Livelihood and Entrepreneurship which include career mentorship and referralto programs and services.
*School-Based Operators Training (Aug 22-23) A two-day training for school-based operators to ensure effective delivery of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services to adolescents, fostering non-judgmental, unbiased, considerate, and equipped service providers in supportive health facilities.
*Digital Innovation Showcase (Aug 22) – A showcase of youth digital initiatives highlighting the adoption of digital technologies that enhance their project or activity and groundbreaking solutions for growth and creative transformation in their schools or communities.
*Kasadya Interschool Contests (Aug 23) – An inter-school competition of Senior High School students in the city featuring a Creative Writing Competition encompassing original poetry andshort stories, as well as a Trivia Contest that explores topics ranging from the rich history of Cagayan de Oro to trends in pop culture.*Youth Day Photo Contest – A photo contest open to all Kagay-anon youth representing their barangay that will showcase their best photo capturing the International Youth Day theme.
*Gabii sa Kasadya: Leaders’ Banquet (Aug 30) – An evening of celebration for leadership and collaboration among SK officials and diverse youth sectors in the city. This will also serve as the culmination night of the Oro Youth Month celebration where SK Federation president and Councilor Kenneth John D. Sacala will give his State of the Youth Address.
