OROQUIETA CITY – Misamis Occidental stepped into the national spotlight today as it successfully hosted the first-ever Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region 10 Regional Fire Olympics, proving not only the strength of its firefighters but also the province’s capability to organize large-scale events.
Governor Henry S. Oaminal emphasized that the event reflects the Asenso Misamis Occidental administration’s commitment to peace, order, and preparedness.
“Public safety is the foundation of genuine progress. With the dedication of our firefighters and the support of our people, Misamis Occidental is ready for greater challenges,” the governor said.
The opening ceremony drew in delegations of firefighters from across Northern Mindanao, fostering unity and competitive spirit through life-saving skills and drills.
BFP Chief, Fire Director Jesus P. Fernandez, hailed the province for its warm hospitality and strong partnership with the Bureau, before announcing that Misamis Occidental will also host the National Fire Olympics in March 2026—a gathering of firefighter athletes from all 17 regions of the country.
For local officials, this double honor reflects how Misamis Occidental is becoming a preferred destination for high-profile events, boosting local pride, tourism, and economic activity.
“This is more than just competition—it is about building resilience, celebrating heroism, and showcasing what Misamis Occidental can offer,” Fernandez noted. ASENSO MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL
