PCO Secretary Dave Gomez Commits to Transparency and Press Freedom

MANILA – Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Dave Gomez has affirmed his commitment to promoting transparency in government operations and safeguarding press freedom, following his formal oath-taking before Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

Addressing members of the press at Malacañang, Gomez expressed gratitude for the appointment, saying he is honored to serve and is determined to give his full dedication to the role.

“A vibrant democracy thrives on an informed citizenry,” Gomez noted, emphasizing the importance of government openness and the public’s right to information. He underscored that access to information is not a privilege, but an essential pillar of trust and accountability.

Gomez introduced his communication strategy focused on what he dubbed “3Ps Minus One” — Programs, Policies, minus Politics. He clarified that his work will center solely on communicating government initiatives, steering clear of political discourse.

“You can count on me to talk about the programs and policies of the President — not politics,” he stated.

He also acknowledged the support of former PCO Secretary Jay Ruiz, who welcomed him during his first press briefing. Ruiz, who previously led the office, is now serving as a board member of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO).

Gomez officially stepped into the role a day after Malacañang confirmed his appointment. Before joining the PCO, he spent over 20 years as communications director for PMFTC Inc., and previously worked as a journalist and led the Philippine Information Agency.
