PCG Rescues 10 Survivors from Capsized Bancas in Antique

MANILA – All 10 survivors of the two capsized motorbancas in waters off Caluya Island in Antique province have been brought home, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Friday.

In a situation update, the PCG said one of the survivors was picked up by his family in San Jose, Romblon on Thursday while the other nine survivors were brought to Caluya, Antique on Friday.

The remains of the three deceased victims were claimed by their families at the Municipal Hall of Looc on Thursday.

To date, seven passengers of the two motorbancas remain missing.

“The PCG, PNP-MARIG (Philippine National Police – Maritime Group), and MDRRMO (Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office) continue the joint Search and Rescue (SAR) operations to locate the seven missing passengers,” it said.

On Monday morning, the two motorbancas – the MBCA Ure Mae and an unnamed boat – left Boracay Island headed for Caluya, Antique when they encountered rough seas and inclement weather, causing the bancas to capsize.

The boats had 20 passengers on board, including the boat captains. (PNA)
