TWO-termer Opol, Misamis Oriental mayor Jayfrancis Bago has been elected the new president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines local chapter president.
Bago replaces Medina mayor Donato Chan whose three terms as local chief executive have expired recently.
Bago will serve as LMP Misamis Oriental chapter president for the rest of his second term up to 2028.
In his first interview after assuming the post, Bago said he will continue the programs that have been implemented under Chan, especially the livelihood aspect.
For that, the LMP chapter has enlisted former Gov. Peter Unabia and even Chan himself as their consultants so the mayors would be guided in serving their constituents more.
Bago also said he is planning to lobby before the various national government agencies, congressmen and senators so they could pour more projects in the province.
Along that line, Bago said he is also planning to run in a national position.
LMP national is expected to hold elections this September.
It was learned that even Chan himself held a national position during his tenure as vice president for special concern.
Bago said he could bring the voice of the Mindanaoans at the national level, in particular the long stalled railway project that would supposedly circle and cut across the island.
Misamis Oriental has a total of 23 municipalities.
