THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 10 (Northern Mindanao) said Monday it will increase the taxi flag-down rate in the region from PHP40 to PHP50.
In a radio interview, LTFRB-10 Assistant Director Mohammad Hajam Sarip said the increase has been approved since last year under a memorandum circular, but stakeholders appealed for its deferral.
“Now that we are experiencing a fuel crisis, taxi groups have again appealed that it’s time to implement the increase,” he said.
Taxi groups also asked the LTFRB-10 to issue a fare matrix showing the increase to be displayed.
Meanwhile, members of the Cagayan de Oro First Taxi Drivers Alliance went to the LTFRB-10 office in hopes of sustaining the fuel subsidy until oil prices return to lower rates.
LTFRB-10 Director Alexes Joseph Bendijo acknowledged the drivers’ and operators’ patience and understanding amid technical challenges in finalizing the list of beneficiaries for the cash assistance. (PNA)
