CAGAYAN de Oro City Hall joined local governments across the country in commemorating the 162nd birth anniversary of Philippine Revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio through simple rites held at the Kiosko Kagawasan on Sunday, Nov. 30.

Key to the event are the Freemasons and its junior organizations, the International Order of Demolay and Job’s Daughters.

This year’s anniversary carried the theme, ‘Isang Bayan, Isang Laban: Katapan Kontra Katiwalian.’

City Council majority floor leader Edgardo Cabanlas represented Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy during the ceremony that featured an executive wreath-laying with full military honors, including a 21-gun salute.

In his message, Councilor Cabanlas extolled Bonifacio’s virtues of courage, loyalty, and strong sense of justice. ‘Bonifacio once stood without power or title, yet he led with conviction and upheld justice with dignity for the Filipino people.’

Like Bonifacio, Cabanlas said the entirety of City Hall’s bureaucracy under Mayor Klarex’s leadership remains committed to these values. ‘(We do this) by implementing programs that address real and urgent needs of the people, especially the vulnerable sectors, in building a just and peaceful society,’ he said.

City Hall officials, department managers and employees attended the program along with barangay officials and civil society groups.

The annual observance is in keeping with the government’s call to Filipinos to honor Bonifacio’s legacy and strengthen Filipino unity for nation-building.
