Fire razes centennial school building in Lanao del Norte town

LALA, Lanao del Norte (PIA)–A fire on Aug. 31 at 12:30 am destroyed Lala Proper Integrated School’s 101-year school building named Gabaldon here.

Damage was pegged at P19.7 million. According to the Bureau of Fire Protection Lala Fire Station, the blaze was extinguished around 4:50 a.m.

The building which housed 10 classrooms was leveled by the fire because of its old wooden materials.

The classrooms of the Senior High School and their equipment including their modules and computers, chairs, and tables have been destroyed. Investigation continues to determine the cause of the fire.

“So far the investigation has not been completed. Investigation is still being done. We invited some people to give testimony regarding the fire,” said Ronel Paño, municipal fire marshal.

The school set up tents as temporary classrooms for the students to continue their face-to-face classes. The local government unit (LGU) of Lala has also sent 10 tents in addition to the tents they need.

“We provided tents and food packs to provide relief to the teachers. We will discuss what we can help together with the barangay and provincial officials,” said Vice Mayor Cesar Yap, Jr.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education and the LGU are planning to build a new school with other government agencies. (LELA/PIA-10-Lanao del Norte)
