CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)—In recognition of the accomplishments and progress in the region’s innovation ecosystem, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)-10 and Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-10, together with other partner agencies, the business sector and academe launched this year’s Northern Mindanao Regional Innovation Day dubbed ‘Filipinnovation: Unlocked’ at SM City Cagayan de Oro, April 21.
The two-day (April 21-22) Filipinnovation exhibit showcases several products, services, and stories of resiliency and innovation from the region’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and tech startups.
“Innovation is a vital component of our national development and economic growth. It is inclusive as it can lead to social and economic transformation both in the developed and underdeveloped areas of the country,” Department of Trade and Industry Misamis Oriental (DTI MisOr) Provincial Director Almer Masillones said, reminding the public of the significance of innovation in a country’s development.
For her part, NEDA-10 Regional Director Mylah Faye Aurora Cariño recognized the creativity of Filipinos during the COVID-19 health crisis in the past years, citing new ideas and innovations that have surfaced and helped address specific issues and challenges.
“Daghan nanggawas nga mga maayo nga ideas to address [the] needs that came out because of the pandemic (Many new ideas arose because of the pandemic, ),” Cariño said.
The ‘Filipinnovation’ event and exhibit is a joint effort of NEDA-10, DTI MisOr, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-10, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)-10, the Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and state universities in northern Mindanao.
