Facilitated SIM registration kicks off at Salay town

by Jan Albert K. Araña

SALAY, Misamis Oriental (PIA)–In line with the implementation of Republic Act No. 11934, or better known as the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Card Registration Act, the Municipality of Salay is the first stop of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC)-10’s facilitated SIM Card Registration program in the province of Misamis Oriental, February 9.

Together with Dito, Globe, and Smart, the NTC-10 helped people sign up and answered questions about RA 11934 at the Sen. Ernesto Herrera Gymnasium in the municipality.

The commission stressed how important it was for subscribers to register their SIM cards, and not just for their own safety. After registration, all transactions made with any mobile number can now be easily tracked, which can stop criminal activity.

“Ang SIM Registration para sa mga subscribers; para maproteksyonan sila laban sa mga text scam, spam ug mga death threats; ug para dili na sila mabinuangan pa,” NTC-10 Admin and Finance Division Chief Lawyer Charisma Oyangoren said.

(SIM registration protects the subscribers against text scams, spam, and death threats; so that they cannot be threatened or fooled.)

Meanwhile, Salay Municipal Mayor Angelo Capistrano, Jr., thanked NTC-10 for facilitating SIM card registration, saying it will significantly help his constituents who have a hard time doing the registration process and potentially lower digital crime activity in his community.

“Kung maregister na ang tanan SIM, wala na’y basta-basta magbinuang sa text o tawag. Managana na sila magbuhat og dili maayo kay dali na sila mailhan. Dili na pud basta-basta magamit ang atoang personal information para makapangilad using our account or identity thief,” Capistrano said.

(If all the SIMs are registered, there will be no more fooling around with texts or calls. They will be hesitant to do bad things since they will be easily recognized. Our personal information will not easily be used for scams using our accounts or by identity thieves)

During the assisted SIM registration in that municipality, 274 subscribers signed up. 14 SIMs were registered for Dito, 148 for Globe, and 112 for Smart.

The NTC-10 continues to urge the public to register their SIM cards, whether online, at facilitated SIM registration sites, or by visiting their nearest telco provider for assistance. The deadline for SIM registration is April 26. (JAKA/PIA-10/Misamis Oriental)
