CDO to showcase investment promotions and potentials

35th Mindanao Business Conference

The  Cagayan de Oro City Government is going all-out to showcase its investment promotions and opportunities during the 35th Mindanao Business Conference (MINBIZCON) on August 11-13, 2026 at the Limketkai Luxe Hotel and The Atrium, Limketkai Mall in Barangay Lapasan’s Central Business District.

“On Mayor’s Night we will be launching our Investment Action Center (IAC), a One-Stop Facility that will make it faster and easier for investors to bring their projects to Cagayan de Oro,” said Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion Officer (LEDIPO) John W. Asuncion during  a recent press conference.

Asuncion described the IAC as a digital dashboard in partnership with DTI-X, that’s aimed at prospective investors where they can access official data for real time analysis for investment assessment wherever they may be through the internet.

However, should the prospective investor wish to personally discuss their prospects further, they will be entertained by the Oro-Trade and Investment Promotion Center (Oro-TIPC) Investors Services Division.

“We’ll also be unveiling “Doing Business in Cagayan de Oro”, a publication we produced with SGV & Co, and EY (formerly Ernst and Young ), where we will be presenting several high impact city projects, from Waste-to-Energy, to our Aerial Mass Transit System that reflect where the city is headed,” Asuncion added.

Cagayan de Oro City generated ₱3.15 billion in locally sourced revenues (second highest in Mindanao) and recorded ₱163.39billion in total bank deposits. The city council also recently approved a ₱171.76 million supplemental investment plan for priority local development projects. The 21st City Council approved a ₱171.76 million Supplemental Budget for public infrastructure and community programs.

The City’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 6.8% to reach robust economic output levels driven heavily by the services and construction sectors.

Priority Investment Sectors

Among the priority investment sectors approved by the Local Investment Board include  Real Estate & Townships(Large-scale developments like Megaworld’s integrated lifestyle communities and expanding high-rise commercial spaces); Business Process Management & ICT (Key hubs incentivized by up to five-year local tax exemptions) and Agribusiness & Logistics (Core priority sectors heavily promoted by the local government and the Board of Investments).

This year LGU will be going further. Will host Cagayan de Oro City Investment Forum and Mayor’s Night on August 11 at the Emerald Ballroom, Limketkai Luxe Hotel.

“Our Local Investment Board determines Local Investment Priority Areas – offering fiscal and non-fiscal incentives e.g. unify PSDP and MDP – development plan for real estate developers

What takes about two years of permitting in other LGUs, takes only six to eight months in CDO. But our local real estate developers have been meeting with us to find even more ways to further shorten that period. So once those improvements we agreed upon are approved by the City Legal Office, that six-to-eight month period will be shortened to only 35 days, he explained.

“We did not remove any of the requirements, we just improved the process flow to make it faster and more efficient,” Asuncion clarified.

“That alone is a big come on for real estate developers. Regulatory fees alone run to millions, thousands of workers are immediately employed in construction, one of the biggest industries contributing to CDO growth,” he observed.
