Official Statement of the Cagayan de Oro Evangelical Council (CEC)
On Flood Control Issues and the Scourge of Graft and Corruption in GovernmentThe Cagayan de Oro Evangelical Council (CEC), representing the collective voice of evangelical churches in our city, stands in righteous indignation over the continuing reports of massive graft and corruption in government, particularly in the flood control projects meant to safeguard our communities.
We are deeply grieved that public funds—resources entrusted by the people and intended for life-saving infrastructure—have been squandered through greed, abuse, and self-interest. What was meant to protect the lives and homes of our people has instead become a breeding ground for injustice, waste, and betrayal. This is not only a failure of governance; it is a moral and spiritual crisis.
As Scripture reminds us: “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people” (Proverbs 14:34). Corruption erodes trust, worsens poverty, and leaves our most vulnerable communities exposed to disaster. It is nothing less than a sin against God and the Filipino people.
Therefore, we, the CEC, declare the following: We demand truth, transparency, and accountability. We call on all government officials—both elected and appointed—to face these allegations with honesty and integrity. Let there be full disclosure, independent investigation, and swift prosecution of those guilty of plundering the people’s trust.
We call the faithful to vigilance. The Body of Christ cannot remain silent in the face of systemic corruption. We urge our churches, pastors, and members to be salt and light—exposing darkness and standing firm for truth and justice.
We stand with the people. We echo the cry of ordinary Kagay-anons who are weary of empty promises and demand a government that serves, not exploits. We affirm our solidarity with all sectors calling for reforms to end the culture of impunity. We appeal for moral renewal. The root of corruption is not only in broken systems but in broken hearts. We pray that God will raise leaders who fear Him, serve selflessly, and act with compassion and righteousness.
The CEC calls upon every citizen, every leader, and every institution: Let us rise above indifference. Let us rally together for truth, justice, and accountability. Let us not allow corruption to drown our people more deeply than any flood.
With firm conviction and unshakable hope, we declare: The God of justice is watching, and the people of God will not be silent.
Issued this day by the Cagayan de Oro Evangelical Council (CEC).
