Melvin Jerusalem, the pride of Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, showcased a masterful display of power and skill as he successfully defended his WBC Minimumweight title against previously undefeated No. 1 ranked Mexican challenger, Luis Castillo. In a thrilling bout held at the packed Mandaluyong City College Gymnasium on the night of September 22, Jerusalem delivered a dominant performance that left no doubt about his prowess.
From the opening bell, Jerusalem was relentless, knocking Castillo down in the first round with a stunning combination of speed and precision. Castillo, known for his resilience, struggled to recover from the early knockdown, and though he showed flashes of his formidable skills, Jerusalem was in complete control throughout the fight.
The judges’ scores of 118-109, 120-107, and 120-107 reflected the lopsided nature of the contest, with Jerusalem consistently outclassing his opponent. His ability to combine defensive mastery with explosive offense made it clear that he was a class above the highly-touted Mexican challenger.
The hometown crowd erupted in cheers as Jerusalem’s hand was raised in victory, solidifying his status as one of the Philippines’ boxing stars. His triumph not only retains his WBC Minimumweight title but also reinforces his place in the global boxing scene.
Congratulations to Melvin Jerusalem for his outstanding victory, proving once again why he is the pride of Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, and a champion who continues to make the nation proud. ###
