THE City Council committee on women and family relations under Councilor Desiree Dahino has agreed to recommend to realize the creation of an autism center in Cagayan de Oro City.
The autism center is expected to fasttrack diagnosis of children exhibiting suspicions of autism as well as provide special education for them.
The move was agreed February 13 during a meeting of the said committee called for the purpose.
Members present who agreed with the proposal include Councilors Paolo Gaane, Jing Daba, Imee Moreno, Marlo Tabac, Gigi Go and Aga Suan.
Expected to also be members of the technical working group are city health consultant and former Councilor Reuben Daba and representatives from the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
Within 30 days, the group will visit potential sites of the proposed autism center.
Dahino said this early, they have identified three possible sites – Lumbia, San Simon or Baikingon.
“This is only the beginning of the legislative process. Progress takes collaboration. And collaboration starts with dialogue,” Dahino said.
