Vice President Sara Duterte has officially endorsed Senator Imee Marcos in her bid for reelection to the Senate in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections, marking a key alliance between two prominent political figures.
The endorsement was revealed through a campaign video released on Senator Marcos’ social media platforms. In the short ad, Vice President Duterte expressed her strong support, saying:
“I trust Imee Marcos. She has always stood by her word and worked hard for the Filipino people.”
This public show of support comes amid shifting political dynamics following the break-up of the UniTeam alliance, which once united the Marcos and Duterte camps during the 2022 national elections. Despite this political fallout, the friendship between Sara Duterte and Imee Marcos has remained intact—and now, it’s taking center stage in the 2025 campaign.
Senator Marcos, who is running as an independent after distancing herself from her brother President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s administration-backed party, appears to be forging her own path—with Duterte’s backing providing a powerful boost.
Their partnership isn’t new. The Marcos-Duterte tandem delivered a landslide victory in 2022 by consolidating votes from the so-called Solid North and Solid South. Now, with midterms around the corner, their renewed alliance could shake up the political landscape again.
Analysts say Duterte’s endorsement may rally her strong base of supporters behind Marcos, especially in Mindanao and among young voters. With the campaign season heating up, all eyes will be on how this influential pairing impacts the race for the Senate.
