OROQUIETA CITY, MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) commenced its 10th National Fire Olympics at the Misamis Occidental Provincial Athletic Complex (MOPAC) today, March 24, 2026.
Guided by its theme, “Bumbero Alagad ng Kaligtasan, Kasangga sa Asenso ng Bayan”, the annual event gathered over 700 participants from 18 regions across the country to compete in three specialized rescue and firefighting disciplines.
BFP Officer-in-Charge FCSUPT Wilberto Rico Neil A. Kwan Tiu led the formal opening while Director for Operations, FCSUPT Robert M Pacis delivered the opening remarks.
In his speech, he emphasized that the event focuses on professional excellence and operational readiness.
“This event is more than just a competition. It is a testament to the strength, discipline, and unwavering commitment of our firefighters across the nation.” FCSUPT Pacis said.
Region 10 under the leadership of FCSUPT ROMEL C TRADIO, hosting this year’s NFO, highlights their unwavering support to the bureau and a strong partnership with the provincial government.
Misamis Occidental Governor Henry S. Oaminal, Vice Governor Rowena “Wheng” L. Gutierrez, and Oroquieta City Mayor Lemuel Meyrick “Lem” Mananggit Acosta, alongside 17 otherlocal chief executives, and key officials, welcomed the participants during the ceremony.
1st District Representative Jason P. Alonte attended the event as the Guest of Honor and Speaker.
He was introduced by BFP OIC FCSUPT Wilberto Rico Neil A Kwan Tiu.
Also in attendance to show their support were Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Director (Region 10 Northern Mindanao) Bruce A. Colao, CESO V, and Atty. Pearl Jayagan Turley, SM Supermalls AVP for Corporate Compliance, representing the longstanding private partner, SM Prime Holdings Inc.
The three-day event includes three high-stake challenges — Life Extrication Challenge, Rope Rescue Techniques Challenge, and Toughest Firefighter Challenge.
The games will conclude on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
The annual National Fire Olympics serves as a platform for BFP personnel to sharpen their skills, strengthen camaraderie and reignite the spirit of service.
