Rotary Clubs Join Forces to Empower Teenage Mothers in Cagayan de Oro

Cagayan de Oro City – In a strategic move to address teenage pregnancy and support adolescent mothers, the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro and the Rotary Club of Makati, in collaboration with the local government in Cagayan de Oro City, have launched a pioneering initiative to uplift young mothers and their children.

The program, Empowering Adolescent Mothers and Their Children in the First 1,000 Days, was officially inaugurated on March 1, 2025, at the City Hall Quadrangle. A key highlight of the event was the formal signing of a partnership agreement, coupled with the turnover of ₱300,000 in funding to provide essential support for young mothers.

With a strong focus on education, job training, and employment opportunities, the initiative seeks to assist 50 teenage mothers and their children. The goal is to disrupt the cycle of poverty by equipping young mothers with the skills and resources they need to secure a brighter future.

“The youth are the future of Cagayan de Oro,” said Neil Ronard J. Que, President of the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro. “Life presents challenges, but it also offers moments of joy and growth. We encourage young mothers to stay strong and embrace opportunities that come their way.”

Teenage pregnancy remains a pressing issue in the Philippines, often leading to financial hardships, health risks, and limited prospects for young mothers. Programs like this play a crucial role in addressing these challenges by offering sustainable solutions and support networks.

Cagayan de Oro Mayor Rolando A. Uy, through a message delivered by City Administrator Atty. Roy Hilario Raagas, underscored the importance of public-private collaboration. “With the steadfast partnership between the city government and the Rotary Clubs of Cagayan de Oro and Makati, we are confident this initiative will continue to thrive. Our mission is to ensure that no young mother is left behind and that every child receives the care, education, and protection they deserve.”

This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant step toward empowering teenage mothers in Cagayan de Oro, fostering hope, and providing them with the tools necessary for long-term success.
