The Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST XI) with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Davao de Oro facilitated the benchmarking activity of the Integrated Gold-Copper Mineral Processing Pilot Plant Laboratory (IGCMPPP) to serve as a guide for the DOST-Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR) establishment of their own pilot plant.
The team identified the best practices of the station including the organizational structure, compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements, implementation of Occupational Health and Safety Policies aligned to Joint Memorandum Circular No. 1 series of 2020 by the Civil Service Commission, Department of Health and Department of Labor and Employment, and initiatives in the preparation for the accreditation of the IGCMPPP Laboratory to Philippine National Standard.
Engr. Howell Ong, DOST XI’s Innovation Management Section Head and Engr. Jasper Castor, IGCMPPP Manager and Research Section Head of PENRO Davao de Oro, led the benchmarking activity.
DOST-CAR Assistant Regional Director for Field Operations Services Engr. Angel Maguen, with their Green Mining Project stakeholders from the industry and academe, also reviewed the existing internal processes and requested recommendations for the effective operations of their own pilot plant.
The benchmarking activity has allowed opportunity identification that is vital in ensuring that the establishment of the plant will be manageable and will deliver big impacts when it comes to the operations.
Currently, the IGCMPPP is co-managed by DOST XI and PENRO Davao de Oro and it is prompted to be included in the Provincial Revenue Code of the Province of Davao de Oro. The facility accepts ores and ore samples for testing and processing for Research and Development purposes.
