IN her privilege speech delivered January 12 during the 22nd regular session of the 21st City Council, Councilor Mercedes “Joyleen” Balaba highlighted the Bungcalalan river in barangay Baikingon as a potential eco-adventure tourism destination.
The river is suitable for various activities such as river trekking, kayaking, bamboo rafting, swimming, wildlife watching, and educational tours.
Balaba emphasized that the proposed development could generate livelihood opportunities for local residents, support small enterprises, and strengthen community-based initiatives.
“With proper planning and community involvement, the Bungkalalan River can become a model eco-adventure tourism destination, one that balances economic growth, environmental protection, and cultural appreciation,” said Balaba, who chairs the council’s tourism committee. THE GAVEL/CIO
