CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Strengthening workforce competitiveness and ensuring that technical-vocational education keeps pace with industry demands were the primary goals of the Government-Industry-Academe Sectoral Consultation on Skills Priorities held July 2, 2026, at the City Tourism Hall in Cagayan de Oro City.
TESDA Misamis Oriental in strong collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Cagayan de Oro through the City Education and Development Office (CEDO), the Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc., and AMORTVET, successfully conducted the Government-Industry-Academe Sectoral Consultation on Skills Priorities at the City Tourism Hall.
Bringing together key industry partners, government agencies, and technical-vocational institutions, the consultation focused on validating priority occupations and identifying future skills requirements across six key sectors: Agriculture, Automotive, Construction, Health, ICT, and Tourism. Through these facilitated workshop discussions, the participants consolidated critical labor market data to directly support TESDA’s Area-Based Demand-Driven (ABDD) TVET Skills Mapping and guide future policy recommendations.
While celebrating this milestone collaboration, the consultation also paved the way for open dialogue regarding local TVET challenges, specifically touching upon infrastructure needs, updating training regulations to match modern industry trends, and strategic alignment of scholarship funding to maximize local employment.
The discussions will serve as critical inputs to TESDA’s Area-Based Demand-Driven (ABDD) TVET Skills Mapping, ensuring that training programs are aligned with the current and future needs of employers.
By aligning technical-vocational education with labor market demands, the initiative is expected to create more employment opportunities, address skills gaps, and equip workers with competencies needed by growing industries. It also strengthens collaboration among government, business, and educational institutions in developing a workforce that can drive sustainable economic growth in Cagayan de Oro and Northern Mindanao.
Moving forward, the partner agencies committed to utilizing these vital sectoral inputs to develop highly targeted TVET programs and foster deeper industry participation in curriculum enhancement. Together, the government, industry, and academe sectors of Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental are working hand-in-hand to ensure our local workforce remains highly competitive.
