P14-B Waste Solution Offered to CDO: No Cost to City

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Philippine Waste Management Technology Corporation (PWMTC) has proposed a P14 billion waste management solution to address the city’s growing garbage problem, with no financial burden on the city government. PWMTC CEO Efren Demesa presented the plan to city officials on January 23, highlighting its potential to generate clean energy and create jobs.

The project involves a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement spanning 25-30 years, with PWMTC covering the full investment. The proposed system can process 1,000 tons of waste daily, handling household, industrial, and medical waste without burning or releasing harmful emissions

Demesa emphasized the project’s environmental benefits, reducing reliance on landfills and preventing pollution. PWMTC also plans to improve garbage collection, providing trash containers and managing waste hauling and disposal across the city.

The proposal has garnered interest, marking one of the largest private investments in CDO’s waste management. If approved, it could become a pioneering project in the Philippines. PWMTC assures compliance with environmental regulations and will secure necessary permits before construction.

The project is expected to create local jobs and generate clean energy for homes and businesses. City officials are considering the proposal, weighing its potential to address CDO’s waste challenges.
