Rehab seen to push Marawi’s economy forward

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)–Now that the massive rehabilitation of the siege-stricken Marawi is nearing completion, City Mayor Majul Gandamra sees a boost in investors’ confidence that would push the city’s economy forward.

During the June 7 episode of Network Briefing News, Gandamra highlighted various infrastructure projects that can now be seen inside the most affected area. These include barangay complexes with health centers and madrasah, the Grand Padian (market), Sarimanol Sports Stadium, and Marawi Convention Center, among others.

The mayor said that these facilities would help attract tourists and investors which could lead to more job opportunities for Marawi residents.

“With the establishment of the different infrastructures gaya nitong padian (market) ay isa sa pwedeng maka-enhance…mabibigyan ng pagkakataon ang ating mga kababayan na makapagsimula muli [such as this padian (market) is one of the things that could enhance…would give our countrymen the opportunity to start again],” he further said.

Gandamra also noted that before the siege the city has no sports stadium and convention center but these two big facilities can now be seen at the heart of the city.

As such, he thanked the national government and President Duterte for including these infrastructures in the Marawi rehabilitation program.

“Malaki po ang pasasalamat natin sa ating sa ating national government, sa ating mahal na pangulo dahil nabigyang pansin po itong Marawi City after the siege [we are very grateful to our national government, to our dear president for paying attention to Marawi City after the siege],”  he added.

Gandamra likewise mentioned the various interventions of the national government such as the livelihood assistance packages of the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and Department of Agriculture which help accelerate the recovery of the city.

Recognizing that stable peace and order is crucial in enticing investors to come in, the mayor assured that the security forces in Marawi and the local government are doing their best to ensure peace and stability in the city are sustained.

Moreover, the city government is also eyeing giving incentives to businessmen who will invest in the city. (APB/PIA-10 Lanao del Sur)
