VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon (PIA)—The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-10, through the Regional Research Funding (RRF) Program of DOST-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), released P731,924 to Central Mindanao University (CMU) to implement the research project that aims to assess the effectiveness of the Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program (CBRP) in Valencia City, Bukidnon.
The study will explore the experiences of drug responders and stakeholders while engaged in the rehabilitation program.
The study’s findings are critical to the Anti-Drug Campaign’s implementation in Valencia City and its barangays.
This research may benefit the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), City Health Office (CHO), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), drug rehabilitation institutions, and health professionals because it can be used to formulate or improve drug prevention, control, and rehabilitation policies.
More than 5,800 drug users have been listed in Valencia City and over 2,600 responders already availed of the CBRP.
In order to ensure adherence to the universal ethical principles for the protection and promotion of dignity of the research participants, the research team obtained Research Ethics Clearance from the National Ethics Committee (NEC).
During the Inception Meeting and Ceremonial Check Turnover held early last month, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in CMU Dr. Leo G. Labrador signified the institution’s commitment of support in carrying out the research project.
Likewise, Project Leader Dr. Eva Mendoza of the College of Arts and Sciences in CMU participated in the series of research proposal writing training conducted by the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research and Development (NorMinCoHRD).
Through NorMinCoHRD, junior researchers from region 10 were mentored to generate research proposals fit for DOST funding.
The RRF Program of DOST-PCHRD encourages new researchers to actively participate in health research without having to compete with more experienced researchers.
Under the RRF Program, research projects may be funded for up to P1 Million. (DOST-10/PIA-10/Bukidnon)
