Camiguin tourism jumpstarts at Alert Level 1 classification

CAMIGUIN (PIA)–Camiguin opens up to more tourists as the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) placed the province on Alert Level 1 that took effect March 1.

Assistant General Manager of Villa Paraiso, Bernadette Bullas shares their accommodation establishment’s reopening preparations with Provincial Tourism Officer Candice Dael on the travel requirements to enter the island during the Come Again sa Camiguin radio program, March 3.

For the past 20 months, Camiguin has been restricting guests on the island, affecting tourism and accommodation establishments. Villa Paraiso had to lay off 90% of their employees when the pandemic hit. In that duration, the establishment has been set up as an isolation facility instead.

As the order of Alert Level 1 was implemented, March 1, 60% of Villa Paraiso’s employees have returned and Bullas is expecting a 100% employee number by the coming week to serve the inbound bulk account of tourists this March 8 to 9.

Before reopening, Villa Paraiso has to request an inspection from the Department of Tourism (DOT) and pass necessary guidelines. To follow safety protocols, employees were required to have been fully vaccinated with its household.

To maintain capacity and social distancing in establishments, Villa Paraiso will also be helping other establishments by referring a number of its supposed guests to a few accommodation establishments in the island accredited by their local government units (LGUs) and DOT.

Provincial Tourism Officer Candice Dael also urges resorts, hotels, and other accommodation establishments to apply for provisional certificates to operate, undergo briefing, orientations, and facilities and amenities inspection. Aside from this, an accreditation from DOT to ensure safety of establishments to accept guests will also be needed.

Tourists planning to visit the island are also encouraged to comply with the health declaration form (HDF) requirements, with their booking confirmation and make sure to have registered to Clean Camiguin QR (www.cleancamiguinqr.com) prior to port arrival.

Expectantly, more tourists will be visiting the island in April and during the summer season. (RLT/PIA-10/Camiguin)
