MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)–A total of 26 individuals were reported dead and 31,915 families were affected as northern Mindanao was hit by heavy rains due to shear line and wind convergence in the early hours of December 25, which wrought heavy flooding in the province of Misamis Occidental, some parts of Misamis Oriental, and some parts of Bukidnon, devastating a total of 285 barangays.

A report released by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC)-10 dated January 2, 2023, at 3:00 a.m. revealed that the 26 individuals that were reported dead came from Misamis Occidental (20), Gingoog City (4), and Bukidnon (2). In Misamis Occidental, there were also reports of two deaths, the rescue of two people, and the search for two missing people.

In the meantime, the weather disturbance affected 14,355 families in Misamis Occidental, 16,511 families in Misamis Oriental, 237 families in Lanao del Norte, and 1 family in Camiguin.

The RDRRMC-10 is still keeping an eye on the ongoing relief efforts and needs assessments of the families who have been affected. They urge the public to continue monitoring the weather announcements from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and their respective Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices.
