CAMIGUIN (PIA)–Aiding indigent patients to access financial medical assistance in the province, Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go led the launch of the 154th Malasakit Center at the Camiguin General Hospital (CGH), January 18.
“Basta tabangay ta. Kung unsa’y makatabang diri sa Camiguin, unsa’y kaayuhan nga makatabang labaw na tong panahon sa pandemya. Di ko manaad. Basta ako pud buhaton lang nako ang akong trabaho sa abot sa akong makaya,” Go said.
(As long as we help each other, what can help here in Camiguin, what is good that can help, especially during the pandemic. I can’t promise anything, but I’ll do my job as much as I can)
The senator also said that P10 million will be immediately downloaded for the medical assistance provided to indigent patients of CGH. “Unaha lang ninyo ang mga pobre (prioritize the poor),” Go added, citing that the helpless and hopeless individuals must be given assistance no matter what.
Indigent patients can conveniently get financial medical aid from organizations like PhilHealth, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, and the DSWD at the Malasakit Center, which serves as a one-stop shop.
In addition to helping poor patients, the senator will give cash aid to 90 rank-and-file workers at CGH through the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program. This includes janitors, security guards, and drivers.
Grocery packs, including face masks, vitamins, and food meals, will also be given to the hospital’s 231 patients and 315 frontline workers.
Go also talked about the establishment of two super health centers in Camiguin, particularly in Mambajao and Guinsiliban. These centers will offer birthing facilities, dental services, x-rays, dialysis, and other needed medical services in the said strategic areas.
Gov. Xavier Jesus Romualdo expressed his gratitude to the senator, saying, “Over the past few years, daghan kaayo support gihatag sa ato si SBG, especially if maghatag ta og financial assistance sa atong mga constituents. Sir, dili gyud ka malimtan sa Camiguin. We will always be grateful sa imong support, sa imong tabang sa amo.”
