World Vision PH trains Marawi schools for disaster readiness

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)–As part of its child protection program, the international non-government organization World Vision Philippines led a child-focused disaster preparedness training to schools and barangays in the city to ready them to respond appropriately in times of emergency.

World Vision Philippines Program Coordinator for Marawi Cecile Cenas shared that the child-focused disaster preparedness training, being part of the implementation plan of her organization, involved partner agencies such as the City Schools Division, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

“This is part of the implementation plan of the World Vision Philippines to assist our schools and our barangay LGU on mitigation and preparedness in times of emergency… As a child-focused organization, isa ito sa activities namin na maturuan ang aming teachers at learners para maging handa sila sa lahat ng form ng mga sakuna na maaaring mangyari sa kanilang komunidad [this is one of our activities to teach our teachers and learners to be prepared in all forms of disasters that can happen in their communities],” she said.

Cenas stated that since 2015 when the national day of disaster risk reduction management was enforced, her organization has already been helping schools by providing training to abate the possible consequential events of tragedies.

With the successful disaster preparedness training, the World Vision Philippines was optimistic that participants will reflect and apply appropriately the lessons they learned to ensure child protection during fortuitous events.

“Sana ay bigyang importansya itong ating training, lalo na ang mga tinuro ng ating mga expert para mas mabigyan ng emphasis ang child protection in times of emergency,” said Cenas.

[I hope they will give importance to this training, especially what was taught by our experts to give more emphasis on child protection in times of emergency.] (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
