MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)—“We cannot say that our COVID-19 situation is alarming, but [it’s] concerning,” says Misamis Oriental Acting Provincial Health Officer Dr. Israel L. Peralta, Jr. during the province’s flag-raising ceremony at the provincial capitol.
The province has now recorded twenty-two cases, up from ten previously reported cases. Peralta indicated that if the trend of cases continues, there is a chance of a COVID-19 surge later in October.
The health chief added that the current administration’s goal for its first 100 days is to inoculate all or at least 90% of senior citizens and 80% of people aged 12 to 19, including adults, with COVID-19 booster vaccines so that the Department of Health’s recommendation to wear face masks is lifted.
PHO encourages all provincial capitol employees and the general population to help them convince those who have not yet received the vaccine or booster dose to do so, primarily senior citizens. Obtaining both the first and second doses, as well as the booster dose, will prevent a possible COVID surge in the province.
As of July 17, the Department of Health (DOH)-10 reported that 556,628 of the 795,186 target population were fully vaccinated, or 76.45 percent, while 77,858 or 9.79 percent had received the first booster dose and 3,525 or 0.44 percent had received the second booster dose. (JAKA/PIA-10)
