CIDG seized smuggled cigarettes in Iligan City

PALA-O, Iligan City - Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Iligan City the other day seized several cartoons of contraband cigarettes and arrested the vendor at around 4:30pm, the police authorities reported.
    
CIDG arrested the suspect identified as Mosaimen Pantara, 22, married and a resident of Brgy. Sta. Elena, Iligan City. Pantara did not resist arrest when CIDG operatives chanced upon him at the Market Area in Barangay Pala-o, this city.
    
The arrest of Pantara, the CIDG said, was part of the Oplan Mega Shopper aimed at apprehending anyone for selling illegal and imported cigarettes which have no graphic health warnings as well as government tax tamps. 
    
This was considered by CIDG as their first trade enforcement in Iligan City as part of the implementation of Oplan Mega Shopper.
    
Initial investgation disclosed that Detectives of CIDG Iligan CFU ( lead unit) together with ICPS5-ICPO and HPT- Iligan conducted police operation about four thirty in the afternoon (4:30PM) at Market Area, Brgy. Pala-o Poblacion, Iligan City which resulted in the arrest of Mosaimen  Pantara, 22 years old, married, vendor and resident of Brgy. Sta. Elena, Iligan City. Pantara was caught in the act of selling illicit cigarettes to the buyer who intentionally was one of the operative who acted as a poseur buyer.
    
During the operation, other vendors have evaded the arresting officers and left their posts after sensing of the approaching CIDG operatives.
    
A total of Twelve (12) Master Cases of assorted smuggled cigarettes which includes Hero, Deputy, Berlin, Fort, San Marino, YS, Bros, Delta, Champion, Royal, Union were seized which all sum up to a total market value of P178,000.
