BY JOEL C. ESCOL, Managing Editor

The Mindanao Tourism Expo (MTEx) 2024 is gearing up to become the second-largest travel expo in Mindanao, showcasing the diverse eco-tourism spots, products, and activities across the island from April 26 to 28 at the Atrium of Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City.

No less than DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco will grace the opening salvo on April 26, 2024 at the said mall, it was learned.

Under the banner of “Limitless Adventure in Mindanao,” this year’s expo promises a thrilling exploration of the region’s offerings. Kai Araneta, Tourism Operations Officer of the Department of Tourism-Davao Region (DOT-Davao), shared this exciting update during the Media Forum at Habi at Kape, Abreeza Corporate Center in Bajada, Davao City, on Wednesday morning, April 3.

“We’re spotlighting adventures unique to each region of Mindanao, from regions 9 to 13. They will showcase adventures specific to their area, all prominently featured in our booths,” she explained.

In her FB page, DOT-10 Regional Director Marie Elaine Salvaña Unchuan announced that seventeen regions are participating in this biggest tourism expo in Mindanao.

“Tomorrow na! All the seventeen regions are here with our attached agencies, tour operators, artists, and craftsmen! We have over 100 exhibitors and everyday performances, food tasting, shopping and more! Unlock the Limitless Adventures in Mindanao tomorrow at the Mindanao Travel Expo in Limketkai Center. Doors open at 10! Opening Ceremony is at 4PM with no less than Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco!
Hope to see you all there at the biggest travel Expo in Mindanao!,” she said.

The event will gather hundreds of tour operators, private tourism stakeholders, and representatives from all 16 regional offices of the DOT, alongside the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Attendees can expect a plethora of booths, including special ones dedicated to highlighting Mindanao’s offerings. These booths will facilitate business-to-business exchanges, product demonstrations, post-tour travel arrangements, and cultural exhibits. The exhibits are open to the public, who can participate in raffles with prizes, including complimentary tour packages.

Reflecting on the region’s potential, DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco emphasized that despite its beauty, Mindanao faces challenges hindering its full development. Frasco pledged the DOT’s commitment to extending services, expertise, and training to ensure the region’s growth and marketability.

Frasco also underscored the importance of initiatives like the Mindanao Tourism Expo in boosting tourism awareness and fostering cultural exchange across the nation.
