Marawi siege displaced worker now a DOLE-10 sari-sari store owner

MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)–Marawi siege displaced worker Amenoden Guro was a recipient of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10 Integrated Livelihood Program’s (DILP) Sari-Sari Store Project worth P22,000, May 23, 2022 at DOLE-10 Misamis Oriental Provincial Field Office (Mis.Or. PFO).

DOLE-10 Mis. Or. PFO Chief Errol A. Natividad said Guro’s wife, Fatimah received the goods from DOLE-10 Regional Director Albert E. Gutib, on his behalf since he is currently in the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) due to a stroke.

Amenoden was displaced from his former job as an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2013 due to Saudization, wherein Saudi companies are required to hire Saudi Nationals on a quota basis, he was repatriated and went back to Marawi.

At the advent of the war in Marawi in May 2017, they relocated to Opol, Misamis Oriental, Fatima said her husband looked for odd jobs to make ends meet, however, due to his paralysis from his 2015 stroke attack, she was thrust to becoming a breadwinner of the family and sold dry goods.

(Last 2021 I learned about DILP through a neighbor and friend. She told me to avail myself since we are qualified. This assistance is a big help to my family especially now that my husband is in ICU. An additional source of income is badly needed. It was difficult for me to find a job since I am only an undergraduate. Selling is the only way I know to earn a living but I had a hard time looking for additional funds to add products to our sari-sari store. I am very grateful to DOLE for giving us this assistance for it is a great help to my family.)

DILP is a flagship program of DOLE that opens economic opportunities to the vulnerable and marginalized workers such as victims of armed conflict by providing them access to grant assistance for capacity building on entrepreneurial ventures, for either individual or group undertaking.
