LDN mayors urged to convince constituents to get vaccinated

TUBOD, Lanao del Norte (PIA)—Governor Imelda “Angging” Quibranza Dimaporo again appealed to municipal chief executives in the province to be more active in seeking out unvaccinated people in their municipalities and convincing them to get inoculated against the coronavirus disease (Covid)-19.

Dimaporo reiterated her appeal during the 1st quarter joint meeting of the Provincial Development Council (PDC), Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), and Provincial Anti-Drugs Abuse Council (PADAC) Wednesday, February 2.

The governor said the low vaccination rate in some municipalities has pulled down the performance of the province in the national vaccination program.

She further said that the reason why Lanao del Norte was placed under Alert Level 3 was due to the low vaccination rate in the municipalities.

“Our cases are not as high as other provinces and cities surrounding us pero tungod lang sa low percentage sa vaccination, na dragged ang tibuok probinsya [but because of the low percentage of vaccination which has dragged the entire province],” she explained.

Dimaporo said the provincial government has done several strategies to encourage its residents to get vaccinated such as the distribution of 10 kilos of rice. However, the vaccination rate of the province is only 41% which is still far from herd immunity.

She said the municipal mayors should strive hard to convince their constituents to get the Covid-19 jab reiterating that the vaccine is for the protection of everyone.

“Muhangyo ako sa mga mayores aning mga munisipyoha nga maningkanot lang gihapon, ayaw pag undang sa pagpaningkanot sa pagkumbinse sa mga katawhan sa inyong mga lungsod. Magpasabot nga dili kini makapatay, dili kini makahimo zombie. Kini proteksyon nga dili severe imong bation kung ikaw maigo sa maong Covid-19,” she said.

[I’m asking the mayors of these municipalities to work hard, not to stop convincing the people of your towns. Let them understand that [the vaccine won’t kill them, it won’t make them zombies. This is for protection so that it doesn’t make them severe when they get hit by that Covid-19.]

Dimaporo also urged other members of the three provincial councils to continue working and give support to the implementation of programs in every municipality, especially health-related ordinances. (APB/PIA Lanao del Norte)

Barangay Rogongon is the largest hinterland barangay of Iligan City in land area and serves as a border between Lanao del Norte and its neighboring provinces: Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, and Lanao del Sur. It is an identified CAPDev (Convergence Areas for Peace and Development) Area of Iligan City due to the insurgent activities of the New Peoples Army (NPA) that hindered peace and poverty alleviation among the Higaonon Tribe and other Indigenous People. The barangay is also a Geographically-Isolated and Disadvantaged Area (GIDA) being at least 40 km from the city proper.

The team for ILIGANiCE, a program funded by DOST 10 and implemented by MSU-IIT, initiated the planning meeting and site inspection with Sikyop Agriculture Cooperative to explore options for collaboration and initially assess the technology needs of the community.

Arising from the meeting, the identified potential areas for innovation include the Tanglad Juice Production and Taro Processing of Sikyop Agriculture Cooperative, the Bamboo Handicrafts of NPA surrenderers, and the Agricultural Tourism within the area.

All parties involved in the project will conduct further planning activities and technology-needs assessments to refine the S&T interventions for the barangay. (Dorina Marie Ytang, DOST-Lanao del Norte)
