Lanao Sur PHO, PH Red Cross hold life-saving training

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)–Aiming to instill sufficient knowledge to save lives, particularly during emergency instances, the Lanao del Sur Provincial Health Office (PHO) in close collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross Iligan City Chapter spearheaded a basic life support training teaching PHO personnel on how to handle situations involving on-the-spot patients needing an urgent medical response.

Lanao del Sur PHO Focal Person Nor-Ailyn Ampang shared that the activity was scheduled for two days with participants divided into three batches.

Accordingly, the first batch held June 16 was composed of 22 staff from the PHO administrative unit and healthcare workers including some nurses, laboratory technicians, dental assistants, and pharmacists.

The second and third batches, on the other hand, are still to be set and shall be attended by doctors and additional nurses.

Philippine Red Cross Iligan Chapter Focal Person Hanifah Domato said with the two days allotted time for the training, they made sure to have relevant theory discussions and lecture demonstrations on the first day as on the second day, a final evaluation was conducted wherein partakers underwent their graded final demonstration and written examination to assess their skills and knowledge.

Additionally, everyone was assumed to have the hospital setting to effectively prepare them on how to apply direct management to patients with emergency cases like those suffering from cardiac arrest while taking into consideration different levels as there would be various responses for adult, child, and infant.

Domato stated that the training was a refresher course for most of the health professionals as they already had experienced undergoing the same training before. However, she still hoped that participants would properly carry out their learnings in practical situations.

“I hope they will be able to apply it in their workplace and also in their respective homes and families,” said Domato.

Ampang then affirmed their partner’s statement as she cited the tendency of forgetting their prior knowledge on the basic life support, thus, the need to have a refresher course.

For first-timers, she stressed that it was more important to undergo the training to have the necessary education, especially since the PHO deals with patients daily.

As such, she highlighted how beneficial their experience was as they could apply what they learned anywhere they go and to whoever needed them.

“Sobrang marami kaming natutunan sa workshop na ito and sana maiapply natin siya talaga. Sana lahat din magkaroon, hindi lang sa PHO kung hindi pati sa lahat ng nasa loob ng Capitol Compound para mas marami tayong matulungan,” said Ampang.

[We really learned a lot in this workshop and I hope we can really apply this. I also hope everyone will have this, not just the PHO but also all that is inside the Capitol Compound so that we can still help a lot.] (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
