ILPI’s ‘Odette’ task force returns home after aid in Cebu

ILIGAN CITY (PIA)–After its mission of helping Cebu City reconstruct its power lines ravaged by Typhoon Odette last December 2021, the Iligan Light & Power, Inc. (ILPI) welcomed Tuesday, February 8, the return of its Task Force Typhoon Odette which is recognized to have rendered a great service to the needy calamity victim communities.

The team of seven members included one unit head, one foreman, and five lineworkers who all stayed for more than a month in Cebu City to aid in the electric restoration.

ILPI Line Maintenance Unit Head Engr. Jun Tano said Cebu’s prime power distribution utility, Visayan Electric Company (VECO) through the Philippine Electric Plant Owners Association (PEPOA) requested for an extension of their assignment in the city for supposedly ten days due to the drastic destruction they have to deal with.

“Tungod sa kadako sa damage, nafeel pud namo nga kung mubiya mi didto, maminusan ug makulangan ang ilang target ug dili kaayo maachieve,” he said.

[Because of the great damage, we felt that if we would leave, their target would diminish and go downhill, and it would not be achieved.]

Accordingly, the ILPI management approved the extension to continue its support as received daily reports that the target accomplishment was yet far from being fulfilled.

Tano said VECO intended to bring back 100% of the power by January 31 but because of the severe damage, it only managed to hit 90% completion.

“Sa pagkakaron, padayon pa ang nabilin didto nga mga team, sister companies sa VECO ug ubang contractors. Naa pa sila didto nagpadayon. Taman karong katapusan [sa bulan] ang ilang target, maachieve nila ang 100%,” he said.

[For now, teams that were left alongside the sister companies of VECO and other more contractors continue [their operation]. Their target is until the end [of this month], they will achieve 100%.]

The unit head assured that with their stay in Cebu City, they were appropriately accommodated with necessities such as their beddings and linens provided. (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Norte)
