Eased travel protocols, accessible vax sites boost vax rate in Camiguin

CAMIGUIN (PIA)—Attaining 109.4% on fully vaccinated percentage as of September 24, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) here, attributes the increase of COVID-19 vaccination turnout to the province’s new travel protocols as well as the availability of vaccination sites throughout Camiguin.

“It’s not just the target population ang gusto nato makuha kung dili (that we wanted to achieve) as much as possible, all eligible population kinahanglan gyud unta tagaan nato og vaccine or ma-vaccinated (should be given the vaccines or be vaccinated),” PHO Dr. Gretchen Cabalang said, September 26 at the Camiguin Convention Center.

In achieving the presidential directives on COVID-19 vaccination, Cabalang said the provincial government’s Executive Order No. 15 or the Revised Travel Protocols in the Province of Camiguin, helped in encouraging locals to avail the COVID-19 booster dose.

“Mao gyud na ang kusog kaayo og tabang gyud sa atong activities for vaccination (This has greatly helped in our vaccination activities),” the health officer added.

To further strengthen the vaccination campaign, the provincial government continuously conducts mobile vaccinations as well as they put up vaccination sites at the province’s churches, cockpit areas, mall, schools, medical clinics, and in barangays.

“Dako sad og tabang nga mag-Lazones Festival na and usa sa rason gyud nga daghan ang nagpabakuna sa atong mga kabatan-onan (The upcoming Lanzones Festival is also one of the reasons why a lot of our youth availed the vaccines),” Cabalang said.

Based on their data, September 24, 2022, PHO has recorded 73,071 first dose vaccinated individuals and 71,361 second dose vaccinated individuals, including those who obtained the Janssen vaccine.

For the booster dose, 24,916 individuals already received the first dose and 3,191 have already received the second booster dose. There are 3,583 individuals in the province who are due for second dose of the booster.

Cabalang said they only need 7,710 individuals to receive the booster dose so the province could attain the 50% coverage of the booster as set by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. for his first 100 days in office.

For the PinasLakas COVID-19 booster vaccination coverage as of September 21, the province has already vaccinated 10,433 (47.52%) individuals under the 12 years old and above category, and 160 individuals under A2 category or 40.25% accomplishment.

The provincial government has also posted the schedule of the intensified COVID-19 vaccination dubbed, ‘Bakunahang Bayan’ in their official Facebook page to further guide locals on there to obtain the vaccines, September 26-30, 2022. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
