DTI-MisOr backs coco industry Christmas bazaar

by Jan Albert K. Araña

MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)–The Department of Trade and Industry-Misamis Oriental (DTI-MisOr) successfully held its nine-day trade fair exhibition and product exposition dubbed Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) Christmas Bazaar Trade Fair and Roadshow with Market, Investment, and Technology, December 19–27, 2022, at the Limketkai Rotunda Activity Center, Cagayan de Oro City.

As the Philippines ranks as the second-largest coconut producer in the world, DTI-MisOr has focused its resources on helping the coconut farmers and its micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs bring their products to a broader market through the trade fair and exhibit.

“The immense abundance of coconuts in the Philippines causes us to focus on and bring attention to the development of the industry and to advance its competitiveness through innovation,” DTI Misamis Oriental Provincial Director Almer Masillones said.

The provincial chief shared that with the signing of the Coconut Industry Fund Act during the term of former President Rodrigo Duterte, the said law became a monumental boost that catalyzed the progress of the coconut industry and economy. The law also lets coconut farmers get access to and make good use of at least P75 million in funds over the next five years to help grow the coconut industry.

With the implementation of the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP), DTI Misamis Oriental promised to help coconut farmers, producers, and small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) get their products on the local and international markets.

“The Christmas trade fair is funded by the CFIDP and is also the fulfillment of the DTI’s mandate, which is to spearhead the marketing and promotion of coconut and coconut by-products,” Masillones added.

DTI-Misamis Oriental thanked the public for its support of its MSMEs and coconut farmers by patronizing their products and visiting the trade fair and Christmas bazaar. (JAKA/PIA-10/Misamis Oriental)
