MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)–Three casualties and thousands were affected as Cagayan de Oro City and Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental experienced a local thunderstorm, October 16-17, that caused an urbanized and riverine flooding in Barangays Bugo, Puerto, Tablon, Cugman and FS Catanico, CDO, and Barangay Casinglot, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
In the latest report by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC)-10, three senior citizens of Barangay Bugo, one from Zone 4 and two from Zone 5, died during the flash flood, October 16. While a cummulative 3,002 families or 13,959 individuals were affected by the flooding, October 16-17, for both CDO and Tagoloan.
The incident also caused a total damage of 252 houses in which 62 houses were totally damaged, 48 are from Cagayan de Oro City and 14 from Tagoloan. A total of 190 houses were partially damaged, of which 162 are from Cagayan de Oro City and 28 from Tagoloan.
The total cost of household damages for Tagoloan reached to P2,278,120 with a breakdown of P1,234,000 for the totally damaged houses, and P1,044,120 for partially damaged houses.
The Cagayan de Oro City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) is still ) assessing the damages incurred in the five barangays.
Also, based on the October 20 RDRRMC-10 report, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-10 already distributed kitchen kit, family food packs, family kit, hygiene kit, and sleeping kits to 859 affected families with a total amount of P14,133,751.82.
From the said amount, P11,327,031.22 was allocated for Cagayan de Oro City and P2,806,720.60 for Casinglot, Tagoloan.
Noting the adverse effects of such calamity, the public is reminded to always stay alert, especially those who are living in low-lying and flood prone areas. (JAKA/PIA-10)
